Cotton Crop Wilting in Gujarat’s Aravalli District, Farmers Concerned Over Yield

Cotton crop sown across 13,857 hectares in Gujarat's Aravalli district hit by drying up; farmers concerned
Aravalli (Gujarat): Farmers in Aravalli district have sown cotton over an area approximately 3,000 to 4,000 hectares larger than last year. In the district's irrigated zones, farmers purchased expensive seeds and sowed the crop in May, ahead of the monsoon. Despite good initial growth, symptoms of the cotton plants suddenly drying up and wilting have appeared over the past week, raising concerns among the farmers.
This year, cotton has been cultivated across a total area of 13,857 hectares in the district. The highest sowing coverage was recorded in Sathamba taluka (4,493 hectares) and Bayad taluka (4,335 hectares). Conversely, the lowest cultivation was recorded in Malpur taluka (just 37 hectares) and Bhiloda taluka (179 hectares).
Farmers had prepared their fields during the summer, completed early sowing, and provided regular care to the crop. However, in the last week, cotton plants in many fields have begun to wilt suddenly. According to the farmers, the plants are drying up rapidly during the flowering stage, raising fears of an adverse impact on yield. Farmers are seeking a solution to this problem and are calling for immediate guidance from the Agriculture Department.
