Cotton Crop Damaged After Rain in Botad; MLA Demands Survey

Botad, Gujarat: Reports have emerged regarding damage to standing cotton crops in Gujarat's Botad district following recent rains. Botad MLA Umeshbhai Makwana has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and the Agriculture Minister, demanding a survey of the crop damage and the provision of assistance to affected farmers in accordance with regulations.

The MLA has raised the issue concerning damage to cotton crops in the Botad, Gadhada, Ranpur, and Barwala talukas of Botad district. According to him, the standing cotton crops in these areas have begun to wither following the rainfall, causing farmers to face crop losses.

Cotton is a key crop for farmers in Botad district. There is growing concern that the crop damage will impact farmers' incomes. Farmers have invested in seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and labor for cotton cultivation; consequently, the crop damage could exacerbate their financial distress.

MLA Umeshbhai Makwana has urged the government to conduct an immediate survey of the cotton crop damage across the four talukas. He stated that the survey should assess the actual extent of the damage in the fields, after which financial assistance should be provided to eligible farmers in accordance with government norms.

He has appealed to the Chief Minister and the Agriculture Minister to take prompt action in this matter. At present, the exact area of crop damage, the number of affected farmers, and the quantum of assistance remain unclear; these details will be determined following the government survey and subsequent procedures.
