Brazil's Cotton Exports Rise 21.8% to 155,000 Tonnes in July
Brazil's cotton exports rose to 155,000 metric tonnes in July 2026, a 21.8% increase from the 127,200 metric tonnes recorded in July 2025. These exports generated $262.4 million in revenue for the country, marking a 27.2% year-on-year increase in export earnings. The average export price also rose by 4.5% to $1.70 per kilogram (FOB).
Bahia, Brazil's second-largest cotton-producing state, exported 23,900 metric tonnes of cotton in July, up from 21,400 metric tonnes in the same month last year. According to Abapa, Bahia's cotton growers' association, the rise in exports is primarily driven by an expansion in cultivated area, particularly in irrigated regions. This has helped boost productivity while maintaining cotton quality.
Anea, Brazil's national cotton exporters' association, anticipates a further acceleration in export shipments in the coming months. The association notes that the harvesting of the 2025/26 crop is approaching historical averages, which is expected to ramp up ginning activities and increase the availability of cotton for export. A significant rise in shipments could occur starting in September.
Bangladesh was the largest buyer of Brazilian cotton in July, accounting for a 19.3% share of total shipments. It was followed by Vietnam (17.7%), Turkey (17.3%), and Pakistan (14.5%). India's share stood at 9.6%.
In July, cotton accounted for 0.77% of Brazil's total exports and 3.35% of its agricultural product exports.
