Blueprint Ready for Kalaburagi Textile Park Under PM MITRA Scheme; Construction to Begin Soon
Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has finalized the infrastructure blueprint and administrative framework for the first phase of the mega textile park being developed in Kalaburagi under the Centre's PM MITRA (Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) scheme. This paves the way for construction work on the project to commence in the coming months.
Priyank Kharge, Minister for Home, IT-BT, and e-Governance, stated after a high-level review meeting at Vikasa Soudha that the necessary preliminary preparations for the project's smooth and timely implementation have been completed. The state government has allocated ₹75 crore for this project in the 2026-27 budget.
With a projected investment exceeding ₹1,800 crore, this project is a key industrial initiative for the Kalyana Karnataka region. In the first phase, an area of approximately 1,000 acres will be developed around the villages of Honna Kiranagi, Nadisinnur, and Firozabad, near the Kalaburagi-Jevargi highway.
Based on the Centre's '5F' vision—Farm to Fiber, Fiber to Factory, Factory to Fashion, and Fashion to Foreign—this park will be developed as an integrated textile manufacturing hub. It is expected to generate over one lakh direct jobs and two to three lakh indirect jobs.
The first phase includes land development, construction of internal roads, an RCC drainage network, an underground power distribution system, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights. Large reservoirs will be constructed for water supply, while a 2.5 MLD capacity Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)-based Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) will be established for environmental protection.
The Central government approved this project in 2023. Kalaburagi was selected for the PM MITRA park in view of the region's strong cotton production potential.
