The Indian rupee weakened by 20 paise against the US dollar on Tuesday, closing at ₹95.96 per dollar.
The domestic currency opened at ₹95.76 against the US dollar and remained volatile throughout the trading session. It eventually settled at ₹95.96, down 20 paise from the previous close.
At close, the Sensex was down 777.94 points or 1.04 percent at 74,003.82, and the Nifty was down 279.50 points or 1.19 percent at 23,118.60. About 1132 shares advanced, 3154 shares declined, and 163 shares unchanged.
