The rupee opened at 96.49 against the US dollar and depreciated by 08 paise to settle at 96.57 at the close of trade.
At close, the Sensex was down 363.66 points or 0.47 percent at 76,391.39, and the Nifty was down 126.65 points or 0.53 percent at 23,869.60. About 1569 shares advanced, 2479 shares declined, and 155 shares unchanged.
