The rupee opened at 96.72 against the dollar, strengthening by 6 paise

The rupee had closed at 96.78 on Thursday, whereas today it opened at 96.72 per dollar, marking a gain of 6 paise.

The Sensex rose by 666.22 points, or 0.93 percent, to reach 72,259.46, while the Nifty50 fell by 226.05 points, or 1.02 percent, to 22,457.85.
