On Friday, the Indian rupee opened 6 paise lower at 96.63 against the dollar, compared to its previous close of 96.57 on Thursday.

The Sensex was down 536.31 points or 0.70 percent at 75,855.08, and the Nifty was down 258.85 points or 1.08 percent at 23,610.75.
